Santa’s Workshop Helpers: Wrapping Station

Children learn so much we they reenact activities that are typically designated for adults. Our kiddos enjoyed wrapping their blocks. They made decisions about which wrapping paper to use. Fine motor skills were developed as they tied ribbons and made pretty bows. They also were encouraged to use scissors to cut materials and tape to secure their wrapped gifted. 

This activity is a simple and inexpensive way to include your kiddo(s) in the holiday tradition of gift wrapping. It’s a perfect skill building activity that we introduced to our Generoso students (4-5 years old).

Materials Needed

• Wrapping paper (You can also use easel paper or construction paper.)
• Scissors
• Tape
• Various size boxes (Wooden blocks are a great alternative.
• Assortment of bows
• Ribbon
• Stickers
• Crayons or Markers
• Label tags (Small pieces of paper can work too)

Spread materials out on a long table or the floor. You can group items in piles or in small containers. Provide a model wrapped present or demonstrate the steps prior to your kiddo engaging. Have your kiddo(s) choose the “gift” they would like to wrap. Allow you kiddo(s) to wrap their gift. Tape can be a little tricky, so assistance may be need. Ribbon is also a great closure method.

Time to decorate! Encourage your kiddo(s) to label their gift with a friend or family member’s name. Put the gift under your tree or give to a friend!
